Trust In A Gust wins G1 Rupert Clarke Stakes

Trust In A Gust today won the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield wearing the Triabit, beating the odds-on favourite Dissident. In a race decided by the narrowest of margins, Dissident looked the winner with half a furlong to go but Trust In A Gust (perhaps aided by the efficiency of the Triabit) nailed him right on the winning post.

Trainer Darren Weir was delighted to train his first Group 1 winner in his home state, and he did it with a horse he selected as a yearling and bought for just $45,000. Trust In A Gust may now be set for the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield in two weeks.

Sir Moments wins G2 Queensland Guineas

Sir Moments today won the Group 2 Queensland Guineas wearing the Triabit. Trainer Steve O'Dea had earmarked the $350,000 race a year ago for Sir Moments and was justifiably thrilled to see his long-term plan for the horse come to fruition.

In a blanket finish, Sir Moments (16/1) managed to lunge at just the right time to edge out three rivals right on the post, one of whom was 80/1 chance Olympic Anthem (who was also wearing the Triabit). The owners of Sir Moments will now discuss whether to pay the $46,200 late entry for the gelding to back up in next Saturday’s Stradbroke.
